About Me
Kittee Berns
Kombucha Medium [she /her /they]
Hi, I’m Kittee Berns! I’ve been creating vegan content on the internet for over 20 years. I’m best known as a cookbook author, food blogger, zine-maker, crafter and recipe developer (check out the shop for my current offerings).
I’ve been an ethical vegan for over 32 years, and making and eating yummy food is a big joy for me. I specialize in creating comforting & delicious recipes that are also mostly gluten-free.
My cooking passions are pretty varied, but I particularly enjoy home fermentation; I’m into making yogurt, kombucha, nut cheeses, South Indian dosai and uthappam, Ethiopian injera, tempeh and vegetable ferments like kraut and kimchi.
I’m the author of Teff Love [voted VegNews Magazine 2015 Veggie Awards Cookbook of the Year] and a self-published zine series called Papa Tofu.
My recipes have also been included in various zines, books and websites including Vegan Pie in the Sky, The Vegan Girl’s Guide to Life, Let Gluten-Freedom Ring, Chickpea Magazine, Herbivore Magazine and VegNews.
I also have a hat pattern in Stitch ‘N Bitch Crochet – The Happy Hooker.
I live in Portland, Oregon, USA with my Bub, Dazee and our dog PowPow. My free time is spent studying Yiddish, sleuthing together my Litvak family tree, knitting, sewing, crocheting, gardening, tinkering in the kitchen, petting all the dogs and a good thrift run.
