MY VINTAGE COLLECTION: ELBRO APPLES!

MID CENTURY – IMPORTED FROM JAPAN.

Welcome to the first in a series of posts where I document and share snippets from my vintage collections.

I wanted to start with my favorites, Japanese ceramic anthropomorphic apples.

I don’t remember when I first started collecting anthropomorphic apples, but it was likely around the time I began gathering Pyrex in the mid to late 90s, with the advent of the internet and EBAY.

I think these apples were produced and imported from Japan by ELBRO. Only one of them is actually marked, but they all seem to share the same facial characteristics and style.

This is a collection that I cherish and use for display only.

I love that these were all hand painted, even duplicates like the 2 smaller teapots above, will never be exactly the same.

Most of these were purchased online from Etsy or Ebay, but I also grab them when they show up at estate sales and vintage shows. I don’t think any of these were found in the wild thrifting.

If you enjoyed this post, check back for additional posts documenting my collections. I have more Japanese apples from PY, Grantcrest and a few unidentified brands.
